The Ultimate Prejudice

I have a Masters degree in education from SUNY Plattsburgh. My major was biology and my minor psychology. Over my years of study I have always been fascinated by humans, and in particular, the amazing way in which we are all put together. Let me give you just a few examples of what I mean.

There are around 60,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body. The vessels of only 4 people, if laid end to end, would stretch all the way from the earth to the moon. Human hair is an engineering marvel. If one head of hair was braided into a rope it could lift 12 tons. The human eye has over 1000 working parts and it is so sensitive to light that it can see a single candle lit in the dark 30 miles away. The eye can actually see ultraviolet light but the eye lens filters that wavelength out to protect the delicate retina from the damage it would cause, resulting in blindness.

Human bone is as strong as granite. A block of bone the size of a matchbox can support 9 tons. Most amazing of all, every drop of blood in your body is fabricated in your bones. The human brain can perform 38 thousand-trillion operations per second. Yet, the world’s most powerful supercomputer, BlueGene, can only manage a tiny, tiny fraction of that, amounting to a mere .002%, or 2/1000 of 1%. 22 days after conception a baby’s heart, which is about the size of a grain of sand, begins to beat in the womb of it’s mother. That heart will beat on average 42,100,000 times a year and rack up a staggering 3,368,000,000 beats in a lifetime of 80 years.

Human skin is a biological filter unlike anything else on earth. It is the largest organ in the human body, and is composed mainly of water and fat, thus it can stretch up to 30 times it’s normal size without breaking. It automatically produce a chemical called melanin which darkens to protect the surface when it is exposed to sunlight. It is self-replicating, waterproof, bacteria proof, mold proof, dirt proof and virus proof. If damaged, it repairs itself and as an added protection the whole body replaces it’s entire outer layer. It falls off every 30 days to get rid of weak, damaged and infected cells. In case you don’t know it, this is what makes up 90% of the “dust” in your house.

Your body produces 25 million new cells each second. Every 13 seconds, it produces more cells than there are people living in the United States. In one day, your blood travels 12,000 miles around your body. That’s enough to travel half way around the entire planet. Humans are actually bioluminescent. We literally do glow in the dark. However, the light our body emits is 1,000 times weaker than our eyes are able to see. If we could enhance our vision we would be able to see people glowing at night. Unlike the image produced by an infrared camera, each of us would have our own distinct color.

I share all this because the Bible says we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”. Only now are scientists beginning to realize just how true this statement is. We are not some random collection of accidental stardust and primordial protoplasm that defied all the basic laws of chemistry and magically formed itself into life. No, every bit of evidence collected about life on earth points to a common creator who fashioned all of it from the same stuff of life. Think of it, half of all human DNA is identical to that of a banana! How about the fact that 8% of human DNA is identical to that of a virus, or that the sea urchin shares a 70% match, and the zebra fish has an astounding 85% match with human DNA.

The fact that there are both males and females of every species who can’t reproduce without the other being totally different, yet perfectly matched in function and purpose, is a huge problem for evolutionists. One can’t exist without the other, and if anything at all was ever slightly unmatched, reproduction could never happened. Just this one fact alone is mathematically awkward for any rational mind to consider, yet it still exists. When you begin to look at just the first few things that had to have happened on their own for a self-developing world to create life from non-life, called spontaneous generation, the statistical improbability goes off the charts. Any honest mathematician will have to tell you it can’t even be calculated, and simply put, it is absolutely and undeniably impossible.

This…… all by chance? I think not! The reasoning mind can only conclude that God must exist and all that we are and see, is His magnificent creation. The building blocks of life are found everywhere you look. God’s creative genius is evident from the highest mountain peak to the deepest trench at the bottom of the ocean. It is clearly seen in the precision of the planets and in the billions of galaxies that turn in perfect  harmony in the heavens. It is complex and varied beyond our ability to grasp, and simply staggers the imagination. To believe that such complicated systems just happened by chance, randomly fell into place, became perfectly balanced, totally synced and more complex over time, flies directly in the face of even the basic laws of nature. The laws of entropy, thermodynamics, motion and systems dynamics all cry out the same message: “Nothing changes or gets more complex on it’s own. Change of any kind requires an outside force acting upon it and without that force everything in the universe falls apart.

So why do we as people hold to ideas and theories that just don’t make sense? Why do we refuse to recognize God, or all the good He has done? Even more importantly, why do we hate Him when we don’t even know Him? These are questions you will have to finally face. The truth is, when you hate someone you have never met, you are a bigot. You are living in a self-created world of prejudice and don’t recognize it for what it is. Whether by fear or ignorance, you have actually set yourself up as god. You simply don’t want to be dethroned so you ignore or hate the One you don’t know in order to stay in power. This, my friend, is the ultimate prejudice!

Does that shock you? It should, because it’s true! To hate someone for no reason, or for the wrong reason, is a blinding prejudice. Even sadder than that, to refuse to admit they even exist, when the evidence of who they are is all around you, is hatred at a catastrophic level. The real tragedy is that such hatred and blinding prejudice never changes the truth, but it has change you. It has kept you from the One who knew you and love you in your mother’s womb. It has prevented you from feeling and receiving the love you have always been longing for. More than that, it has kept you from all you were created to be, and what a tragic loss that is. The good news is, things don’t have to stay that way!

Consider the facts that I have laid out and honestly look at yourself and your life. Are you ruled by the ultimate prejudice? Do you hate or worse yet, ignore God? Have you unknowingly set yourself up as “god” in a life of your own creation? If so, let me encourage you to do the only logical thing. Repent and step off your throne. Set some time aside to meet with God and see for yourself that He is real. Begin a heartfelt, honest conversation with Him and then look for His answers. Read His love letters, found in the Bible. When you get to really know the One you have never met, everything will change. Open your heart to a new idea; God is there, He loves you and wants to live life with you. For those of us who have embraced this truth it changed everything, and it can change you!
